Gaza Farmers Struggle to Grow Food on Scraps of Land Amid Severe Threats

Efforts to rebuild domestic food production in Gaza are facing severe challenges and coming at a deadly cost. As the territory's population of 2.1 million has been hemmed into an increasingly small slice of land, farmers are utilizing every remaining patch of unspoiled earth in their struggle to survive. Farmers face severe shortages of water, fertilizer, and pesticide, while more than 80% of greenhouses have been ruined. Despite needing inventiveness and determination to clear land of debris and coax new seedlings into life, venturing out into the open to tend to plants can be deadly.
