Mamlaka za mitaa nchini Guinea-Bissau zimeripoti kesi 46 zinazoshukiwa na kesi saba zilizothibitishwa za mpox kufuatia kutangazwa kwa janga la kitaifa mnamo Julai 4. Mlipuko huo ulitangazwa rasmi wiki moja tu baada ya mwanamke mwenye umri wa miaka 27 kuwa kesi ya kwanza iliyothibitishwa katika nchi hiyo ya Afrika Magharibi.
Karibu miezi miwili tangu mlipuko huo uanze, maofisa wa afya wanatoa onyo kali kuhusu idadi kubwa ya wagonjwa wadogo na uwezekano kwamba virusi vinasambaa bila kugunduliwa. Watoto wanachangia nusu ya kesi zote zilizoripotiwa, huku wagonjwa 16 wakiwa chini ya umri wa miaka minne.
